The Hub Visit

After having two visits to the hub I have really gained knowledge within radio and the community radio family. I have gained this knowledge by having a member of The Hub staff, Nathan, talking to us all about how The Hub/radio in general works and how the work done there is voluntary. This is really useful because to be able to present a show myself I need to know some of the ins and outs of radio and what you can and can’t do. This could be from not swearing to making sure that the songs which I play and the topics I talk about are suitable for the audience.

I have also had an insight to how all the radio equipment and music software works. After being shown how to use it we were then able to have our own practise so I will then know how to change songs when actually doing our radio show. We also had a chance to look through the background music and jingles which are available for us to use within our radio show. This means we could then choose what we wanted to make our show more interesting and what could be added to our features.

After listening to my practise show back I thought that my voice sounded clear and I was good at extending a topic that we were talking about to make a more conversational tone. However I think I now need to be careful

not to let my voice go into a mono-tone style as this could easily become boring to the listeners. Also some feedback which was received to us was to make sure that we weren't stood too close to the microphones so our voices sounded really loud so when we do the actual show I will be aware of this.
